B2S Labs® on the move

B2S Labs® is making headlines with a unique three-way partnership.

The applied biotechnology firm that specializes in helping companies develop new biotherapeutic drugs is partnering with the city of Franklin to purchase a downtown building at 97 East Monroe Street — directly across from city hall.

B2S Labs® plans to invest about $1 million worth of renovations in the vacant historic structure built in 1907, thereby expanding the city’s tax base and job offerings. The company aims to eventually hire up to 40 additional employees for 25,000-square-feet facility.

Fittingly, B2S Labs® has adopted Ben Franklin’s motto of “doing well by doing good.”

The company, currently based in Indianapolis, expects to open the Franklin laboratory to employees — and students — later this year.

As part of a partnership with Franklin College, located within walking distance of the laboratory, students will have the opportunity to get real-world, hands-on learning experience at B2S Labs.

“The establishment of B2S Labs in Franklin provides tremendous opportunities for the college, the city and Johnson County,” Franklin College President James G. Moseley said in a press release recently issued by the college and also published by Inside Indiana Business. “The college is thrilled to partner with an innovative business within an innovative field.  It provides an outstanding opportunity for our students to participate in engaged and experiential learning in the ground-breaking field of applied biotechnology, opening doors to meaningful, significant careers upon graduation.”

The three-way partnership has also been featured in the Franklin-based Daily Journal newspaper and Indianapolis-based WISH TV.
